How to Login to TCU Email on the Web


    With Microsoft Exchange it is possible to access your e-mail remotely using a web browser such as Netscape or Internet Explorer. When you arrive at TCU you will be given an e-mail account. In most cases your e-mail address will be First Initial.Middle Initial.Last Name@student.tcu.edu (ex. Super W Frog should be S.W.Frog@student.tcu.edu). TCU e-mail address have several benefits including: 50Mb space, Virus Scanning, attachment capability, HTML formatting and user support.


    How to Log On

    1. Set your web browser to access: Http://mail.tcu.edu

    2. At the Logon prompt fill in your E-mail address and press Enter   

    3. The dialog box to the right will appear. Enter your Username and Password. Click OK


    Important Security Reminder

    Remember to log off (click the Log Off icon in the Outlook Bar area at the left side of your screen). By logging off you close the session between the client and the server. If you close only the Web Browser, there is no guarantee that your session is closed.



    The Mailbox Viewer

    The Mailbox Viewer is the main window in the Web Access application. It includes the folder list, the folder contents list and the Outlook Bar.





    The Folder List

    The folder list is the set of folders that appears on the left side of the Viewer. Typically if you have new mail in your Inbox, the folder list will look like Figure1 and you will see the new mail in the folder contents list. If you click Up One Folder and you will see the Deleted Items, Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items and other folders you have created. To display the contents of a folder, click on it. The folder content list for the currently selected folder is displayed on the right side of the viewer.





    The Outlook Bar

    The outlook bar allows you to select your mailbox, public folders, find names, options, and logoff.




    Reading Messages

    To read a message click on the underlined portion of the message that is displayed in the folder content list. The message is displayed in the message body and these items are displayed in the Message Heading:
    • From: <name> indicates the name (or e-mail alias) of the sending person or organization.
    • To: <name> indicates the name (or e-mail alias) of the primary recipient.
    • CC: <name> indicates the name (or e-mail alias) of the carbon copy recipient.
    • Subject: briefly describes the subject of the message
    • SentL <date,time> indicates the date and time the message was sent
    • Importance: indicates the importance of the message as determined by the sender. It can be set to High, Normal, or Low




    Toolbar

    The toolbar can be used to reply to messages, reply to all recipients, post the message, forward messages, move to the previous or next message, move the message to a different folder and to delete a message. WHen you are through reading the message, click on Close to return to the folder content list.



    Creating New Massages



    To create a new mail message click the Compose New Mail Message button in the upper right portion of your screen. Type the e-mail address of the recipients in the To: or CC: boxes. Separate multiple addresses with semicolons (;). In the Subject: box type a brief summary of your message. Type your message in the message body. When you are ready to send the message, click the Send button.



    Deleting Messages

    It is very important that you delete old messages as often as possible. This will allow enough space for new messages to arrive.
    • While you are reading the message you can click the delete button on the toolbar.
    • Or while you are in the folder content list put a check by those messages you wish to delete and then click on the Delete Marked Messages button.








    TIP: Checking for New Mail

    If you receive new mail while accessing your mailbox, it will not appear unless you click on the Check for New Messages button.



    How to Attach Files

    Click on the Compose New Mail Message button in the upper right hand side of the screen. To attach a file, click on the Attachments tab.



    Click browse to find the file you want to send. A Choose File box will pop up. After you find the file, single click on it, and click on Open. The path should now be listed. CLick on Add Attachment Now. Click on the message tab to compose the message and send it.



    How to Open Attachments

    If a message has arrived and it has an attachment, then an icon should appear in the message box that looks similar to this:

    When you click once on it, a file download box will appear. Make sure you choose save to disk, and click on OK. Remember where you save the file, when you choose a location to save it in. Once saved, the file can be opened and viewed on your computer.






    Personal Address Book



    Internet e-mail allows you to store contacts, which have fields for phone numbers, addresses and e-mail addresses. This replaces the standard personal address book that you may be used to.



    Calendar



    Internet e-mail also allows you to keep calendar online. This is a handy way of storing and scheduling you appointments in order to see them from any computer that can access the internet.
